WHAT IS IN A NAME?
TRADITIONAL FREE RANGE
Basically it is egg farming in a way most people would expect their eggs to be produced. However egg production is currently changing with the cage farmers being forced by public pressure to switch to barn farming and also free range farming. This means that many farmers are now using increasingly modern methods to be able to supply you free range eggs at lower prices.
Most consumers have no conception of the difference between the two main systems Multi-Tier and Flat deck.
Multi-Tier –These eggs are produced in large barns with multiple levels. These levels allow the farmer to calculate an increased floor area in the barn, allowing the farmer to house more birds in the same sized barn. Many of these barns are set up with multiple systems making it difficult for the hens to find their way to the outside ranges. There is also the benefit of the farmer of reduced labour costs.
Flat Deck-These are sheds with just one level, the traditional method used free range farming. It allows for a better environment for the Hens and allows them easy access to the outdoors. Helping them to be truly free range.
Freedom for the hens to range and enjoy the fresh air, our green pastures and shaded bush areas are what is important to us at Traditional Free Range eggs and the flat deck system is integral to this.
